I wanted to get filipino food and I knew where to get it. While the main Road boasts big, famous names of companies and brands, Shuangcheng street is better known for its alsmost 24 hours night market-like food stalls and atmosphere busy, loud, smelly, because of at least 2 stinky tofu stalls , very down-to-earth, no-bullshit, old-school taiwanese food except for one lady who sells Thai stir-fry-and-rice dishes.
Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino names stand out. Most infamous is probably B52, popular with not your average east- Asians and Africans! So instead of paying for her special skills, I used her as a free Restaurant guide. The second filipino shop, selling filipinized western food think sweet spaghetti, pizza with spam and small burgers was closing too.
But no. No Thai food for me that night. Malatang seems more like a recent innovation, but I might be wrong. The first is not an option for me, obviously. Medium it is. Street vendors selling perfectly fresh and healthy food on the streets of Thailand or Manila, but when they get peckish themselves, they go to the next 7eleven for micro-wave crap or fried chicken. One of my favourite brands of tea-and-juice-and-stuff-in-paper-cups.
